Careers

At Rutherford Technology High School we have a comprehensive Careers program designed to assist our students in their transition from school to work or from school to further education.  This program is facilitated by Mr Jesse Robertson (Careers Adviser) and Mr Toby Butler (Head Teacher VET and Transition Adviser).

Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of Careers experiences such as Work experience, Targeted excursions, Impressions 10 Mock Interviews, Careers lessons, Short course qualifications, TAFE taster courses, In-school presentations / workshops and Individual mentoring / case management.  

 

Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Rutherford Technology High School offers the most comprehensive range of Vocational Education courses in the Maitland area.  Students have the opportunity to complete their HSC and gain nationally recognised qualifications ranging from Certificate I to Certificate III.  The VET courses currently on offer at RTHS are:

·         Business Services Certificate II

·         Construction Pathways Certificate II

·         Entertainment Certificate III

·         Hospitality Certificate II

·         Information, Digital Media & Technology Certificate III

·         Manufacturing and Engineering Certificate I

·         Primary Industries Certificate II

·         Retail Services Certificate III

·         Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways Certificate II

·         Sports Coaching Certificate III

 

School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATS)

Rutherford Technology High School proudly supports students undertaking as part of their HSC studies.  This allows students to work one paid day per week, study a relevant VET qualification to their employment and complete the rest of their HSC studies with us at Rutherford Technology High School.  Currently, we have 21 senior students (the largest in the public school in the Maitland area) undertaking an SBAT in a range of different areas such as:

·         Assistance in Nursing

·         Business Administration

·         Retail

·         Warehousing

·         Aged Care

·         Construction

·         Metals and Engineering

·         Hospitality

·         Automotive

Many of our School Based Trainees have gone on to continue their employment and career with their host employers and been recognised by regional award such as the Youth Express Robert Beggs Award for Excellence in Vocational Education.

External Vocational Education and Training (EVET) / TAFE Delivered Vocational Education and Training (TVET)

Senior students at our also have the opportunity to complete off-site or externally delivered vocational education courses as part of their HSC studies.  Rutherford Technology High School has strong links with training providers such as TAFE and UAVAir.
