Rutherford Technology High School is proud to have the support of the local Rutherford/Maitland community. This is reflected in many events at the school where members of the local industrial/business community volunteer their time to support activities at the school.
This support includes a range of events such as:
- Career Choices Workshop where members of the local community come in to talk to Year 10 students about their careers, what is involved in their working life, qualifications needed for this career pathway, where the job can lead, etc.
- Student Work Experience Program - many of our students are keen to experience the workplace for themselves to determine if it could be the right career pathway for them. Local businesses are approached to offer one week's work experience to students.
- Impressions10 Mock Interviews - these take place during November when all Year 10 students undergo an interview with a panel drawn from the local community. The purpose of this is to practise their interview skills and be well prepared for when they are faced with the real life experience of being interviewed for a job.
- Genesis Gym at Rutherford hosts a "Shockwave" class each week for a group of students as an alternate learning environment where they can build resiliency, develop respect, and work with positive role models from the community. This program is resulting in a significant change in students' approach to their schoolwork.
